Alumni Schools Committee

Interviewers Wanted

The Yale applicant early decision interview season begins shortly. The Fort Worth Alumni Schools Committee (ASC) needs interviewers to interview and report on a plethora of bright, young seniors applying to Yale College. We always have more applicants than interviewers, so please consider donating your time to interview a candidate or two for Yale. To help you decide to volunteer, we’ve compiled some additional information that may provide more insight into the process.

What is the interviewing schedule?

The ASC will assign early action interviews once the early action applications are entered into the Yale ASC system after November 1, 2020. Any interviews and reports for early action must be completed by December 15, 2020.

The ASC will assign interviews for regular decision once the applications are entered into the Yale ASC system after January 1, 2021. Any interviews and reports for regular decision must be completed by February 15, 2021.

What is the time commitment for an interviewer?

Each interviewer will need to dedicate approximately one hour for the interview and one hour to write up the follow-up report. Once you register at the Yale ASC website provided below, you can select the number of interviews based on this time commitment.

How do I contact the applicant?

Yale provides the applicant’s email address and cell phone number so that you can contact them directly.

If you find that an applicant is unresponsive, please let the John Fahy (jfahy@whitakerchalk.com) or Caroline Tower (ctower@whitakerchalk.com) at the ASC know so they can help you secure an appointment with your applicant.  If the applicant continues to be unresponsive or declines and interview, you’ll still need to submit a brief report detailing the efforts to make contact and the results.

Where should I conduct the interviews?

For the 2020-2021 interview season, Yale requires online interviews in response to COVID-19 pandemic. We anticipate that the choice of in person or online interviews will return in future years when the pandemic passes.

How do I find out if an applicant was admitted?

You can log into the Yale ASC website and see if someone was admitted early decision after late December 2019 and regular decision after late March 2020.

Does the ASC interview recruited student-athletes?

Yes, the ASC does interview recruited student-athletes for admission, and the interviewers must abide by NCAA rules when interviewing candidates.

How much background information on a candidate does the ASC have?

Generally, the ASC only has contact and high school attendance information.  This is usually the only information provided to interviewers before they conduct the interviews.  Be prepared to spend time getting to know your applicant.

Can I select a high school from which to interview applicants?

To make the interviewing process fair to all the applicants, you cannot select to interview applicants from a specific high school.
